Schiffli Cocoon Bobbin
Specially engineered for Schiffli embroidery machines, ensuring smooth tension, consistent stitching, and flawless lace patterns.

A cocoon bobbin is a bobbin-shaped package of thread wound without a spool core — the thread itself holds the shape, which is why it is named after a silkworm cocoon. Because there is no plastic or metal centre, the whole package feeds out through the shuttle of a Schiffli embroidery machine, and far more thread fits into the same space than a cored bobbin would allow.
Why the winding matters more than the thread
On a Schiffli machine, hundreds of shuttles run at once and a single tension fault stops the whole frame. A cocoon bobbin has to unwind at exactly the same rate from the first metre to the last, which depends on how evenly it was wound rather than on the yarn itself. Uneven winding shows up as loose stitches, thread breaks and shuttle jams — all of which cost far more in downtime than the bobbin did.
What to check when comparing suppliers
Ask about winding consistency across a full carton rather than a sample bobbin, whether colour is matched batch to batch, and how the bobbins are packed for transport — a well-wound bobbin that arrives crushed is no use. Consistency between deliveries matters more than any single specification, because a machine set up for one supplier's tension has to be re-set for another's.
How we produce them
A.A Brothers winds cocoon bobbins in-house in Faisalabad on dedicated winding equipment, which is what lets us hold tension and colour consistent across a production run and repeat it on the next order.
