Polyester Embroidery Yarn

Highly durable and colorfast yarn designed for high-speed embroidery machines. Ideal for uniforms, sportswear, and demanding textile applications.

Polyester embroidery yarn on cones, ready for high-speed machines

Polyester embroidery yarn is the workhorse thread of industrial embroidery. It is chosen over rayon wherever the finished garment has to survive washing, sunlight or bleach — polyester keeps its colour and its strength through all three, which is why uniforms, workwear and sportswear are almost always stitched with it.

Strength is what lets machines run fast

At production speed a thread is pulled, bent and abraded thousands of times a minute as it passes through the needle eye. Polyester's tensile strength is what allows those speeds without constant breaks. A thread that breaks even occasionally forces an operator to stop, re-thread and unpick, so the real cost of a weak yarn is measured in machine hours, not in price per cone.

Colourfastness and why batch matching matters

Polyester holds dye inside the fibre rather than on its surface, so it resists fading and bleeding in the wash. The practical risk is not fading but batch variation: two cones of nominally the same shade from different dye lots will show a visible line across a large embroidered area. Order enough of one batch to finish a job, and check that your supplier can repeat the shade on the next run.

Choosing the right weight

Finer threads give sharper detail in small lettering and dense fills; heavier threads cover ground faster and stand out on coarse fabrics. The right choice depends on your design, your fabric and your machine's needle size — tell us what you are running and we will advise on the counts that suit it.
